Much of the mechanics and success behind effective backswings begin before you ever swing the club. Understanding the fundamental elements involved in creating the ideal backswing will help any player improve their game. This however does not come easy for most and will require hours of practice in order to correct any flawed motion existing in the current swing.
Most players won’t have to reconstruct their entire golf swing. Anyone who has ever consumed George Gankas golf videos understands that instructors like Gankas are not looking to rebuild a player from square one. Students who have improved their game through the teachings of George Gankas golf lessons are only improving the flawed motion found in their natural body movement. This type of swing correction leads to an easily consistent golf swing, refined from how their body naturally rotates.
Introducing alignment sticks into your practice routine will help your body adopt perfect alignment. If a player cannot get their body correctly aligned, there will be no way to achieve any type of swing success on the course. Make sure your positioning feels natural at address. There should be no muscle tension during setup and a player should feel posed to take the club back and send the shot flying.
As you’re bringing your club back for the backswing, be sure to use your shoulders to do the heavy lifting. Some players allow their hands to lead their body rotation, which will not garner the results most seek. Your club, body, arms and hands should rotate back together in one motion. Failing to keep these elements connected to each other during the backswing will set yourself up for failure as you transition into your downswing sequence. Don’t allow your hands to control your backswing and you will have less trouble than most while transitioning to your downswing sequence.
Players that are unable to complete a successful backswing may feel as if their body has prevented their club from doing so. This may be a sign that you lack the room to be able to get your club down to the inside of your target swing path.
