When I prepared Patrick George that I’d be travelling around in a 2017 Honda CR-V over the holiday season, his immediate effect was: We have to review it. Everyone’s buying those damn things.”

(Full disclosure: Honda Canada called me to provide me an opportunity to spend time when driving of the all-new CR-V over the holiday season because they like finding me exiting vehicles just like a BAMF.)

He’s right. Since it was launched in 1997 (twenty years already?), Honda has sold almost 4 million CR-Vs. IN THE US, it’s the best-selling SUV. And in Canada, the CR-V has continued to be within the most notable 3 best retailers throughout 2016, combined with the Toyota RAV4 and Ford Get away.

Fine, so people are buying a shitload of CR-Vs. A lot more alarming is the large quantity of crossovers that UNITED STATES humans are buying, period. Actually, sport electricity vehicle sales have officially surpassed car sales, making them our preferred setting of transportation.

Which sucks for me personally, personally. When I needed to be an motor vehicle journalist, it wasn’t to examine big blocky vehicular contraptions with high centers of gravity, all-wheel drive, and soul-sucking CVT transmissions. It had been to review athletics cars in famous brands Porsche, Ferrari, and BMW.

But this CR-V regrettably reflects the truth in our current vehicular surroundings, and after spending lots of time travelling it through just about all versions of Canada’s winter, I have to confess, I’m beginning to understand the selling point of these things.

Remixing a vintage Hit

If you are already creating a best-selling electricity vehicle, how will you improve it? Fortunately, Honda is aware of why the CR-V is undoubtedly an enormous sales success and hasn’t recinded the endearing characteristics which have managed to get the go-to electricity vehicle for North-American people. Actually, for the 2017 CR-V, Honda had taken most of its lovable characteristics; versatility, competency, dependability, and affability, and cranked all of them to up 11.

Think it?s great or hate it, Honda is very heading at it full golf swing using its cybernetic, almost transformer-like design terminology. But unlike the Civic, which remains a difficult car to get my mind around, the CR-V’s mash-up of upright corners, blocky proportions, and overabundance of chromium actually soon add up to make it a more coherent vehicle than the main one it replaces. A couple of extravagant LED headlights in advance, and the traditional upward tail lighting which may have been a CR-V design characteristic since its inception stay.

It is also a lot much larger in every sole possible stinkin’ way. Traveling on the ginormous new Civic system (yes, Civic, not Accord), this new, significantly bloated CR-V now leans more toward much larger Honda Pilot place with a lengthened wheelbase of 104.7 in (up 1.2 in), making for a complete amount of 180 in (up 1.2 in). This CR-V is also wider at 73 in (up 1.4 in), and taller at 66.5 in (up 1.4 in).
