Former top 100 ATP Player and USTA High-Performance Coach, Jeff Salzenstein shares 5 steps that will help you hit better and bigger tennis serves. He also talks about the importance of working on your strength and mobility so you can develop proper technique and execute great serves.
Here’s a breakdown of each steps which includes key and bonus tips for you to focus on the court.
Hold the ball with your finger tips, and practice releasing the ball consistently with no spin on it.
Toss the ball with the palm up, and as you release it, rotate your shoulder to get your palm facing towards the side fence. This will allow you to get more extension as you reach up.
Tempo And Rhythm
Avoid moving your upper body and racquet too fast at the start. Load the lower body, and when you start to release the energy ; the racquet will drop.
Practice reaching out more to make contact above your dominant shoulder. Toss needs to be in the right place.
Land on your front foot, and then step forward. If you don’t jump, hit the serve, step into the court, and feel balanced.
Those are five big tips that can help you with your serve right away. Even if you just pick one step, you’ll see the difference right away.
